Since this question is not powerpc-specific but a generic Debian question,
you should post it to debian-user. I can't really help you on this issue
    as I personally use systemd.

I know that there was recently some discussion on debian-boot on how to
replace systemd with sysvinit during installation [2].

    Hello,

I'm trying to install Debian SID on a Power Mac G5 system using the Apr
    2021 CD.

After installing a basic text-only system, I replaced systemd with sysvinit-core.  However, most things that I try to install seem to
    require systemd.

    For example:

    # apt-get install xserver-xorg
    ...
The following packages will be REMOVED:
      sysvinit-core
    ...
The following NEW packages will be installed:
    ... systemd ... xserver-xorg ...

I'm using this entry in /etc/apt/sources.list:
    deb http://ftp.ports.debian.org/debian-ports/ sid main

Maybe there is a different repository for packages that do not require
    systemd as a prerequisite?

I could try some other GNU/Linux distribution, but I'm familiar with
Debian SID, and I don't run into this situation on any other
    architecture (including 32-bit powerpc).

    thanks for any information

I guess I thought it was powerpc-specific since 32-bit powerpc systems
don't seem to have the same issue with Debian SID packages requiring
    systemd.

There should be no differences between powerpc and ppc64 in this regard.

You may have installed different package versions on both systems which
is why it works on the 32-bit system but not on the 64-bit system.
