From John Paul Adrian Glaubitz@21:1/5 to All on Wed Apr 14 23:10:02 2021
    Hello!

I just uploaded updated Debian Ports installation images that were
created today and ship with the latest Debian unstable kernel (5.10)
and all other packages updated to their latest version in Debian
    unstable.

If you test these images, please let me know if you run into any issues.

    Adrian

I tried it on my API UP1100 with Debian 3.0 (Woody) from years ago. Your snapshot is fine, but the only problem I found is respect aboot
    installation.

As far as i remember, aboot needs ext2 partition. Well, I have created a
10GB partition with ext2 for it, but always I get the same message like
aboot needs more disk space. More than 10GB for a tiny aboot code? I don't think so.

When I installed older versions, never saw this problem.

That's really strange. Did you try automatic partitioning? I installed on my XP1000 using the new images and didn't see that problem. I'm curious why you're getting this message. The installation log from /var/log/syslog would be helpful.

Also, normally you should be able to ignore the warning and continue.

Until aboot install, I can not to boot it from SRM console.

    Yep.

Thanks for your job for Alpha!

    You're welcome.

I wonder if you partitioned from the start of the disk? aboot must
go at the start of the boot disk so some space must be left at the
start before the first partition. I wonder if that is the problem?

    Cheers
    Michael.

Yes, that was the reason. Automatic partitioning already does it like that, as Adrian told me. aboot partition must be the first slice as you said, and with 1.0 MB is enough (I forgot these details). All done.
Now I'm dusting off other machines like Alphaserver DS10L (21264) and AlphaPC LX164 (21164) to test Debian releases on them again.

That's great to hear. Please keep reporting back in case you run into issues or also when stuff works well.
