I post this note to draw attention to a bug that I reported six weeks
ago in QEMU's emulation of IBM System/390 hardware:
QEMU S/390x sqxbr (128-bit IEEE 754 square root) crashes qemu-system-s390x
https://bugs.launchpad.net/qemu/+bug/1883984
A 2-character patch was quickly found by QEMU developers, but has been disappointingly slow to make its way into various Linux distributions.
This bug can be triggered with a one-line user program that then
crashes the O/S, and the virtual machine, and that can also corrupt
assorted files on the systme, and write garbage into system logs.
Thus, I view it as a severe one whose repair should be quickly pushed
into O/S distributions.
