• Subpoena regarding ongoing patent matter

    From Daniel Hakimi@21:1/5 to michael.vanhandel@dlapiper.com on Wed Jul 1 17:10:02 2020
    There is nobody "at" Debian because Debian is not a place or a legal organization. Depending on what you want out of your subpoena, the
    information might already be publicly available. Otherwise, there *may* be individuals or related nonprofits or large contributing corporations you
    could ask for certain information, but it's hard to guess who you'd be
    looking for without an idea of what information you want.

    Hello,

    I’m a patent attorney at the law firm DLA Piper, and we came across some software written for Debian that is relevant to the validity of a patent at issue in one of our cases. As a result, we want to issue a subpoena to Debian to gather evidence relevant to our case.

    Is there a registered agent for service of process of the subpoena, or somebody else at Debian that will accept service of a subpoena?

    We appreciate your help.

    Can one get a free root canal with the subpoena? (-;

    Isn't Debian a loose association of supporters?
    Does such a non-entity association ever designate an "agent for process"? Wonder in what state or country that would be?

    Seems that some of the very expert people on this list
    might be willing to testify as experts, or even as knowledgeable laymen
    but who would step up without knowing what the testimony or issue would be?

    Perhaps the approach of hiring an expert or at least compensating someone for their trouble
    would get more of a response from these already hard-working folks.

    Just a thought...
