• Requesting sponsorship for the OpenDigitalRadio project

From Robin ALEXANDER@21:1/5 to All on Fri Apr 22 11:10:01 2022
    Hi,

    I recently submitted 4 debian packages (odr-audioenc, odr-padenc, odr-
dabmux and odr-dabmod) that implement the essential tools to setup a
Digital Audio Broadcasting transmission chain. For more details, you
    can visit https://www.opendigitalradio.org/mmbTools

I tagged these debian packages as "hamradio", although I reckon ODR is
not strictly speaking amateur radio (but it is still radio!).

Could you please tell me if you could accept and sponsor these
packages? If not, could you give me some advices:
    - What tool(s) (ex: reprepro) would you recommend to setup a private
debian repository that would host these packages?
    - How can I generate deban packages for other hardware platforms (ex:
    arm64, arm/v7)?

Thank you very much in advance for your support.

    Kind regards.

    Hi Robin,

I think "hamradio" is fine since it's radio as you say. Everything
else would be more off. And we have welle.io as well in that section,
which is a DAB(+) receiver that isn't really "ham" radio either.

Do you still need sponsoring for any of the packages?

I'd just upload everything to Debian which makes the question of
private hosting obsolete :D. But reprepro would be the tool to use,
    yes.

This would also answer the question of arm building. If you want to do
it outside of Debian, you'd need a machine to do that, or possibly try cross-building (or qemu).

    Hi Christopher,

Thank you very much for your email and your kind proposal for sponsoring: this is great news for the Opendigitalradio project!

I believe that one of the 4 packages (odr-padenc) was pushed to the NEW queue but didn’t make any progress since then and that the other 3 are still in mentors.

    Kind regards.

    Hi Christopher,

I can now see that odr-padenc was pushed to unstable: thank you 😀️

There are 3 packages that are still sitting in mentors:
    + odr-audioenc (the audio encoder)
    + odr-dabmux (the multiplex)
    + odr-dabmod (the modulator)

Is there a way you could push these packages as well, in order to have
    the whole broadcasting chain?
If yes, will the packages be migrated eventually to testing and be
included in the next debian release (bookworm)?

Once the packages are present in testing, is there a way to "backport"
    these 4 packages to bullseye?

    Kind regards.
