• Is there any plan to package SDR++ and NOAA-APT ?

From Fabrizio Furnari@21:1/5 to All on Sun Aug 14 19:00:01 2022
Hi all, lately I've encountered two nice programs that could be included in Debian: https://github.com/martinber/noaa-apthttps://github.com/AlexandreRouma/SDRPlusPlusBoth are under GPL-3 license and noaa-apt already have the source packaging work
done, while SDR++ has a simple script to build a binary package.Don't know if they already has been considered for inclusion in the past (a very quick look in the archives shows me no match about these 2 packages but I can be easily wrong). In case I
could help in packaging but I'm a little bit rusty about (it's been ~10 years since I've built my last source debian package and I should keep up with Debian policies and such) and for shure I'll need a mentor for this. Thanks,Fabrizio

    this has been imported here
    https://salsa.debian.org/debian-hamradio-team/sdrpp
it builds but it's still at v. 1.0.3, so I guess the first step would
be to upgrade it to 1.04, but I don't know how

Hi Daniele,I'm not familiar with salsa.debian.org (but I know better GitLab), the repository you linked is a mirror from the official/upstream one? This mean that sooner or later SDR++ will be added to the official Debian repository? Is there anything

There are also several libraries that need de-vendoring before that
package is ready for upload. They are tracked in debian/TODO in that repo.

    Cheers

it's not a mirror because it doesn't track every change from upstream,
it's more a tool for preparing the debian packages, especially useful
for collaboration on the packages maintained by the Debian Hamradio
    Team

This mean that sooner or later SDR++ will be added to the official Debian repository?

it only means that work has started, but as Kyle mentioned, it needs
work on libraries before we can even think about adding to Debian: https://salsa.debian.org/debian-hamradio-team/sdrpp/-/blob/master/debian/TODO

Is there anything I can do to help with this (or maybe to start working on the other one, noaa-apt)?

packaging sdrpp and noaa-apt are difficult tasks, you are welcome to
undertake them, but why don't you start with something easier or
    faster?

here is one of the various quality assurance tools: https://qa.debian.org/developer.php?email=debian-hams%40lists.debian.org
look if one of your favourite software has any bug filed, then if it's something that should be fixed in Debian, create an account on salsa,
fork the repository and send a merge request with your fix

If you start working on something that takes time, just talk to this
mailing list to avoid wasting time on duplicated work.

    Also ask here any question.

Hi Daniele, currently I don't use a lot of software, just fldigi, gqrx and gpredict and a few other.I'll give a look around for bugs on these packages and see if I can fix something trivial.Another way could be update some upstream package to new
version (assuming that I remember how to work on source packages :) ). In this case the workflow is the same (fork/merge request)? Thanks!FAugust 28, 2022 3:00 PM, "Daniele Forsi" <iu5hkx@gmail.com> wrote:> Hello Fabrizio,> > did you find

choose the task that you prefer, I didn't mean to slow you

    for the workflow see https://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/hamradio-maintguide/hamradio-maintguide.en.pdf
