    Dear developers,

Summer is very much behind us in England now so here follows a somewhat chillier overview of what I've been getting up to as your Project Leader
during September 2018. For various reasons I consciously took the odd
weekend day entirely "away" from the leader@ inbox, so please excuse any
delays to replying to your correspondence this month.

    * Fielded yet more questions and queries around the "Commons Clause"
[0] license condition (of which I was the maintainer of a package in
question) as well an unrelated trademark issue.

    * Whilst it feels a very long time ago now, I was still delighted to
be invited to sign my name to some "thank you" letters to university
    and government-related organisations organisations/individuals
    involved with DebConf18 [1].

Don't forget that videos have now been uploaded to the video archive
[2] and, of course, one can be making amends for any absence by
    planning travel well in-advance of DebConf19 [3].

    * Began early discussions regarding a collaboration between Debian and
the the 2019 edition of the "foss-north" [4] conference in
    Gothenburg, Sweden during April.

    * Provided further assistance to Tobias Frost around his proposal for
a packaging "salvaging" process which he recently published via
    debian-devel-announce [5].

    Finances & event reimbursements
    ===============================

In addition to responding to various follow-ups to previous requests, I:

    * Approved a funding request for a contributor to attend the Google
Summer of Code [6] mentor summit as well as confirmed and
recommitted Debian to their involvement in the Winter 2018/2019
    Outreachy internships [7].

    * Followed a discussion regarding Debian Partner [8] Bytemark [9] now
that it has been acquired by IOMart [10].

    * Approved funding for a Debian Cloud Team [11] sprint to be held in
Seattle, Washington between October 8th-10th [12].

    * Connected more number of Developers with our Trusted Organisations
    [13] to locate missing reimbursements.

    * Approved a small request to reimbursement for one Developer who sent
a "swag bag" of DebConf18 [14] goodies to another who was highly-
involved participated from a distance (thanks!), as well as approving
an extension to a DebConf travel bursary request.

In addition, I have been participating in a larger and (alas) currently
private discussions regarding some potential larger donations.

    Other
    =====

In addition to the above, I spent time on:

    * Participating in the discussion regarding selling Debian-related
media on Amazon, as well as one regarding the people-power involved
in the Debian Trademark team [15].

    * Forwarding a thought-provoking and somewhat controversial (!) idea of
Eric Holscher's to the debconf-discuss mailing list which generated
    a lively debate. [16]

    * Responding to a query sent to the leader@ alias regarding potential
changes/concerns regarding the handling of the NEW queue [17] as
well as improving the transparency of anti-harassment complaints.

    * Issuing a "DD certificate" for a Developer.

    * More discussions around a potential Debian Cloud team [18]
delegation and administration around the Google Summer of Code [19]
    outreach program.

    * Redirecting support queries/questions sent to the leader@ alias and
responding to feedback from my previous «Bits from the DPL».

    * Enqueuing a few ideas for "micronews" [20] for subsequent publishing
    by the Publicity Team [21].

    And finally…
    ============

    In case you missed it:

    * There's a Bug Squashing Party happening right now (!) in Chemnitz,
    Germany [22].

    * The Release Team provided a timely reminder regarding the transition
& freeze deadlines for Debian "buster". It also includes an update on
how the autopkgtest [23] results have been affecting migration from
    unstable to testing. [24]

    * There will be a Debian Bug Squashing Party (BSP) in Karlsruhe,
Germany between 26th-28th October [25]. Don't forget Debian is
willing to reimburse 100 USD (or equivalent) to attend Bug Squashing
Parties (BSP) [26]. If there are no BSPs near to you, please do
    consider organising one [27][28].

I would like to repeat my usual request for any feedback, etc. Naturally,
any other questions or concerns about the Project that would be
inappropriate or difficult to bring up elsewhere are always welcome
too — please address them to leader@debian.org.

    Best wishes,
