• Bits from the New Member process

    From Enrico Zini@21:1/5 to All on Mon Mar 9 15:50:01 2020
    Hello,

    this is an announcement of news from the Debian New Member Front Desk.

    * nm.debian.org has a new theme

    Taking advantage of SnowCamp[1], Enrico worked at a new base template
    for nm.debian.org. The site should look better, adapt better to a wider varieties of devices, and being based on well-known frameworks like Bootstrap[2], be easier to expand and improve.

    * Official list of Debian Members

    We now have an authoritative list of all official Debian Members at https://nm.debian.org/members/ which is linked from the official website
    at [1] and at the bottom of [2].

    * Improved person search

    https://nm.debian.org/public/findperson is now much more stable, easier
    to use, and usable from mobile.

    * Full name vs LDAP information

    The site has historically used the LDAP structure for storing personal information, including the first/middle/last name distinction. This has
    been a long-standing issue, as that distinction is incorrect in a way or another for several Debian members and contributors[1].

    The site now allows a person to provide their full name as they deem appropriate, and has a separate section for filling in broken-down LDAP
    fields for legacy compatibility with the current Debian infrastructure.

    * Tracking MIA Application Managers and Front Desk members

    A new page[1] tracks the last known activity of Application Managers and
    Front Desk members, to help keeping the staff status up to date.

    * New mailbox viewer

    Visible only to applicants and application managers, the viewer for the
    mailbox archives in the site is now significantly refactored, and should
    look and feel a bit more like a standard mail reader, making it faster
    and smoother to use.
