I don't have the time to keep samba, cifs-utils and [related] packages
in good shape, and I don't use it anymore as file server or AD/DC (I
only use it as domain member and cifs client).

A team with at least 2-3 members would smooth the process. Any help is appreciated. There is some bug triaging and packaging needed, but the
packages are not far from common and recent packaging practices. You
don't need to be an advanced packager and you don't need to know samba internals nor advanced configuration slots.
