• ddtp2.d.n down again but that's ok!

From Thomas Vincent@21:1/5 to All on Tue Mar 3 09:20:01 2020
This is an OpenPGP/MIME signed message (RFC 4880 and 3156) --y5knjoQllzUPoWcrAXm3GXDnCzPKz0dMW

    Hello all,

We were planning to send you a message tonight announcing that we would
be migrating the DDTSS service next weekend, with a proper timeline,
etc. but ddtp2.d.n tried to catch us by surprise and went down again.

Luckily, I have retrieved the last available version of the database
backup yesterday evening, so that means that at worst we don't have the
last day of contributions on DDTSS (I don't know at what time DB daily
    backups are prepared).

So, what I propose to you instead is that we start the migration process tonight and let you know when ddtp.d.o is ready to be used (hopefully
    tomorrow morning).

    Cheers,
    Thomas

Thanks for working on this. I noticed ddtp.d.o is already up and
running and I tried working on it a bit, even thought there was no
further comunication about it being ready to be used.

Maybe you already know this, but there is one problem we, in the
Italian team, noticed with accented characters. There seems to be some character code issues. (see for instance https://ddtp.debian.org/ddtss/index.cgi/it/translate/network-manager-ssh-gnome where the word "è" (second word of the first paragraph) become some unrecognizable character.

The frame where the diff was shown for updated translations is also missing...but I guess you already know this.

If you are already aware of these issues, sorry for the noise.

Thanks to all who are taking care of the DDTP/DDTSS.

    Beatrice

    Hi,

That looks like an error we had during our tests. I'll look into it tonight, opefully it's trivial to fix.

after last intervention on "network-manager-shh-gnome", we (italian) have another 53 descriptions entered in DDTP database. These descriptions could be part of Translation-it official description file tonight.
Furthermore, another ~50 descriptions already entered in database yesterday.

Fortunately, ddtp.d.o seems not be able to create Translation-LANG.bz2 files [1]
and communicate with the script on FTP-master side.
ATM Translation-LANG files are not being affected by encoding problems, AFAICS their last update dates back to 2020-03-02 (old DDTP). [2]

Can you please switch off the new DDTSS and restore the database dump until
    all these issues are fixed?

Thanks a lot for all your work on migration.

    Kind Regards.

No. Not the diff from previous revision. But the diff from previous
translation in the database when a description is changed in the
    debian package repository.

When a description translation has to be udpdated, like this one,

    https://ddtp.debian.org/ddtss/index.cgi/it/forreview/network-manager-ssh-gnome?1583422242

you can see at the very bottom a link to a patch with the diffs

    Hi,

please note that the new system has a real problem with coding
characters, which affects also the Danish translations

    https://ddtp.debian.org/ddt.cgi?desc_id=274594&language=da

So far there was no official notification of the system transition done.

It would really be helpful if whoever is taking care of the transition
would inform the translators on how to behave.

It is not much about losing work (which would not be fair... but life
is not fair), but surely not to insert in the database a lot of coding
mistakes that can have a big repercussion (if you consider automatic translations of all shared paragraphs).

In my opionion, officially there is a last dump of the old system and
no notification of an official system change. So that dump should be
the starting point of the new system if there is a choice to be made
on what to discard (better yet if everything can be kept! :) ).

Anyway, that is my opionion and it counts 0. I can live with whatever
other choice is made. But I think it would be fair for translators to
at least know if they have to work on the new system (and try to take
measures to save what's lost) or wait.

I am really thankful for the work put in this transition by
    volunteers. I really do.

So once again thanks to whomever is working for giving us a more
    stable platform to work on.

    beatrice

please note that the new system has a real problem with coding
characters, which affects also the Danish translations

    https://ddtp.debian.org/ddt.cgi?desc_id=274594&language=da

So far there was no official notification of the system transition done.

And Danish is affected (didn't see it during translation, but this is a real bad issue and stops the translation effort).
    Thanks for the info Beatrice.

      Hi
Danish has lost some translations in the transition (but that's okay if we get a more stable platform).

The new platform is definitely faster. :o)

Are we going to see the previoulystranslatedpackages functionality again? https://ddtp.debian.net/ddt.cgi?allpreviouslytranslatedpackages=da https://ddtp2.debian.net/ddt.cgi?allpreviouslytranslatedpackages=da

    Hi,

please note that the new system has a real problem with coding
characters, which affects also the Danish translations

    https://ddtp.debian.org/ddt.cgi?desc_id=274594&language=da

So once again thanks to whomever is working for giving us a more
    stable platform to work on.

    beatrice
