• Call for translation updates for debian-installer

From Holger Wansing@21:1/5 to All on Sat Dec 10 00:40:01 2022
    Hi all,

I would like to ask, if you could take some time to update the debian-installer translation files for your language, if needed.

There has been some longstanding rephrasing of strings in the installer some time ago, so there is a possibility of some outdated translations now.

It would be great, if you could look at https://d-i.debian.org/l10n-stats/translation-status.html
    - at least for level1 - to see, if there's some work to do for your language, and update it, if so.

For those of you working directly on our git repository,
    that would be
    https://salsa.debian.org/installer-team/d-i/-/tree/master
and for people working via Weblate, go to https://hosted.weblate.org/projects/debian-installer/

Many thanks, on behalf of the installer team

    Holger

    Thanks for the heads-up.

I have pushed level 1 translations in Bulgarian to salsa.

In level 2 only ISO 3166-1 names needed updates and I've done these in
weblate¹ (additionally adopting several suggestions for corrections
from another weblate user in the process). I hope that is OK for you.

Together these should bring Bulgarian back to 100%.

There is still more than half a year until the next Debian release, but maybe you prefer to do work without being under time pressure :-)

    Hello Holger,

I checked the Weblate platform. I am familiar with Weblate, using it on translate.codeberg.org in my own projects.

I am confused about your configuration.

I do see 6 components in the "Debian Installer" project behind your
Weblate link. "sublevel1" to "sublevel5" and "Debian Installer
    (Glossar)".

The later do have German but without strings. The other 5 components
    don't have German.

But I am sure that the Debian Installer is available in German. So
    where are the translations?

Anyway, it is great to have Debian using Weblate. This is IMHO very
important and also to my own experience improves translations and makes
it much easier to approach (non technical) translators.

    Regards,
    Christian Buhtz

The german translation for debian-installer is 100% translated, as can
be seen on the statistics page I mentioned (translation-status.html).

Weblate being a relatively new project (if you take into account, that the debian-installer is translatable since more than 20 years), it's not our
    main translation platform.
There are still languages, where the translators are working via git.
For debian-installer, languages are only activated/visible on Weblate when translators have requested for this.
Which did not happen for German...

But nevermind, there is still endless work to do for German translators
    on other packages ;-))

    Viele Grüße

    Holger
