• Error 500 on DDTSS

From Daniele Forsi@21:1/5 to All on Fri Nov 22 10:30:01 2019
    Hello,

I'm trying to access this page after another user successfully updated
the translation but I'm getting an Internal Server Error 500 (the
server is up because the other pages work as expected):

    http://ddtp2.debian.net/ddtss/index.cgi/it/forreview/texlive-latex-extra?1573661549

an error 500 happens also trying to force-fetch that same translation
    by name or number (https://ddtp2.debian.net/ddt.cgi?package=texlive-latex-extra)

    that translation is huge:
    apt-cache show texlive-latex-extra | wc -l
    2628

I would be happy to accept the translation without reading it, is
there something that can be done client side or server side? And how
it would be possible to avoid this error in the future?

I’ve tried to send an "accept" to the DDTSS using curl but I have not
found the right way to do it yet.

If it's just a timeout issue, another way to solve it could be to
finally migrate the DDTSS to a (faster?) official Debian machine (setup
in progress, see [1]). I'll ping DSA to ask if they know when it can be
    ready.

I've just reviewed both italian and french translations using a Python script.

Thans a lot for taking care of this problem.

Obviously both translation are "untranslated" now (the package
description changed in the mean time, more so for the French team who
had the problem since long ago).

Each team can decide whether to try their luck in re-fetching it for updating it, I imagine.

Yes, it would be a great thing if the DDTSS/DDTP could get a bit more of "love"

I remember this one, the description is so huge that the diff calculation causes the server to time out. I'm not sure why it didn't get fixed last
time, but I've now adjusted the code such if there are more that ~5000
words it does line-diff instead of word-diffing. This should make it more feasible and the link above works for me now.

I agree the server could use some love. I've considered just moving it to
some AWS instance. I would cost some euro's per month but even the smallest instance there is bigger than what it is now. Or the current machine could
be upgraded, unfortunatly no-one is registered as the "owner". Moving to
DSA would be great, though I'm unsure if I would still be able to manage it (IANADD).

As an aside, I've pushed the changes I've made to the live system to salsa
    and submitted a merge request.

    https://salsa.debian.org/l10n-team/ddtp/merge_requests/2

Can someone look over it and merge, then I can bring the live system back
in line with the git repository.

    Have a nice weekend.

In French, it seems that the description is translated and updated:

I have a look to the text and there is only a typo (one middle dot
missing), so I think I will not "re-fecht" it.

I am afraid it is not so simple. That is package texlive-extra-utils,
But I think we were talking about texlive-latex-extra (which is much
    bigger).

    https://ddtp2.debian.net/ddt.cgi?desc_id=272546&language=fr

and if you look at the bottom there are a lot of paragraphs that are
marked as "untranslated" even if in the general package page

    https://ddtp2.debian.net/ddt.cgi?desc_id=272546

    French is marked as complete

and indeed, if you look at the French page above, you can see that everything after rcsinfo is not translated but it's the original English version.

So, yes, it looks translated. But, more importantly, I suspect all the correspondence between the original paragraph and the translated ones
got messed up. That is what happened for Italian anyway, which
prompted us to refetch it, do some grep/diff/checks of our own and fix
    the translation.

Your team can chose what to do about it, but if you ever update it I
suggest to do a check that there is still a correspondence between the automatically translated paragraph and the original contents. I
wouldn't trust the automatic translations at all in this instance.

PS In the French translation team, we greatly admires the work of your
    team on DDTSS\°/

Thanks a lot!! We admire the work of all who are crazy enough to
embark in the DDDTP translation, which looks often like the work of
    Penelope weaving her fabric :)

    Ciao,

    beatrice
