• Draft: Debian 8 Long Term Support reaching end-of-life

    Hello publicity and translation teams,

I have drafted a new announcement, "Debian 8 Long Term Support reaching end-of-life". I would like you to review the draft and the i18n teams to translate the content when it is approved by you. You can find the text
    here:

    https://salsa.debian.org/publicity-team/announcements/-/blob/master/en/2020/20200709.wml

The new announcement is very similar to the previous one from 2018. I
believe this will also significantly ease translations.

    Key facts:

    Jessie reached end-of-life on June 30, 2020.
Debian 9 will be supported until June 30, 2022.
Security support for Stretch LTS will be handed over on July 18, 2020,
    after the last point release.
The supported architectures include amd64, i386, armel, armhf and arm64 now.

    Regards,

    Markus

What's that supposed to mean? Support for oldstable ends on the 6th

And why was this not send to team@s.d.o?

    Cheers,

Sorry, but I was assuming that the official end of oldstable is on July
18 when Debian 9.13 is released.

It was sent to debian-release too. No ill intent from our side.

That syncs up potentially missing builds and creates the "final" installation images for Stretch, but updates end on the 6th.

I have changed the date to 6th from 18th. Though in my opinion July 18
marks the official end of oldstable and the begin of Stretch LTS because
users will receive updates from a different channel than
stretch-security. This is something that normally won't happen while LTS
is running. Thus I have clarified the paragraph and now I mention both
    dates.

Sure, we have done it three times before. This time the draft looked
really innocent to me. Will do better next time. :)

    Hi Markus,

The supported architectures include amd64, i386, armel, armhf
    and arm64 now.

On this point (at line 36) file, as this is an announcement of a
transition may I suggest making a distinction between of these
architectures are new to this support cycle? (i.e. "diff")

Debian 9 will also receive Long Term Support for five years after its

I believe it's best to leave as suggested by Markus as it describes the situation as it is: security supports ends on the 6th and lts starts on
    the 18th.

and then i'm sure *should* there be critical issues showing up between the
6th and the 18th, someone *will* handle them. we just don't plan for them.

(and until the 12th things can also go in regularily via the point release.)
