• use Perl; # Annual meeting of the Debian Perl Group (BoF for debconf20

From =?UTF-8?Q?Cl=c3=a9ment_Hermann?=@21:1/5 to All on Tue Jun 23 16:30:02 2020
    Hi team,

I just submitted a BoF for Debconf20 Online (using last year format).

As this is an online event, and to allow as many people as possible to
attend, I requested the BoF to happen around 12:00 UTC, please chime in
if you think another time would be better so I can change the submission.

As usual, one should check and edit https://wiki.debian.org/Teams/DebianPerlGroup/OpenTasks beforehand to
collect items for discussion and ongoing work to be discussed.

I'll report back when I get scheduling info etc.

    Hope to see you there!

    Cheers,

    Merci bien !

I also started a gobby doc shortly after the last BoF (in order to
not forget a thought I had) for the preparation of the agenda:
    debconf20 > bof > pkg-perl
(So far the only document in the debconf20 namespace :))

Maybe we can use the LHF session on 21 August (should be the week
before the Online DebConf) to prepare or finalize the agenda. Or some
    earlier IRC (and/or jitsi?) meeting.

    There's also https://wiki.debian.org/Teams/DebianPerlGroup/Statistics
In last years' BoFs we briefly presented and discussed those numbers
    (collected ad hoc in gobby docs before I moved them to the wiki);
I'll try to update them again before the BoF.

    Cheers,
    gregor

August LHF sounds good to me (I'm open to a specific meeting, though)

    Hi,

the BoF will happen on Tuesday, August 25th at 12:00 UTC - that's about 36 hours from now.

The talk page on DebConf20 website is https://debconf20.debconf.org/talks/20-use-perl-annual-meeting-of-the-debian-perl-group/

The Agenda has been prepared on gobby, at the usual place: https://gobby.debian.org/export/debconf20/bof/pkg-perl

There is an Etherpad as well, and we might want to switch to that. That would mean copying the content
from the gobby doc to the pad, and back again after the BoF.
    The pad address is https://pad.online.debconf.org/p/20-use-perl-annual-meeting-of-the-debian-perl-gr
and is also linked from the talk page above.

Since it's undecided, for now the pad advises to use gobby instead. Thoughts/comments/arguments for one or the other welcome!

    *Note on participating*:

As stated in the pad, since Jitsi can give a suboptimal experience with more than 20 participants, the link to the Jitsi room isn't publicly disclosed. People who participated in a LHF or to last BoF (if I could find their email address) should have
    received the link already.

If you want to participate, and did not receive a link, please ask for it by answering this email :)

You can also just watch the stream and ask questions via IRC on the team channel: #debian-perl on irc.debian.org.

I look forward seeing you there and then, even if it's not in person! :)

    Cheers,

    Hi,

I've been reminded (see forwarded message below) to arrange a short test
call before the BoF to ensure smooth participation. Participants are
strongly encouraged to do the same and join #dc20-speakertest for a
    quick test.

It should be very quick, just a few minutes, to ensure everything is
    working smoothly.

When you do so, please tell it's related to a BoF I (nodens on IRC)
facilitate, so the people in charge can keep track.

A few generic Jitsi pointers, just in case, even if I guess we're all
getting used more and more to these tools nowadays ;)

(those are gathered from my own experience, but I've been told during
    the test it still applies):

    - prefer Chromium (or a variant) over Firefox: it makes things easier
for everyone, both the Jitsi instance and the participants computers

    - Use an external microphone and don't rely on the laptop one if possible
    - mute yourself when you don't need to talk especially if your
microphone is noisy (or you are taking notes).

I'm looking forward meeting you in the Jitsi room tomorrow!

    Cheers,

    nodens

Subject: Please arrange a Jitsi test call before your DebConf20 talk

    Dear speaker,
If you've already had a test Jitsi call with the Speaker Assistance Team, or your talk has already happened, feel free to ignore this. Otherwise, please come to #dc20-speakerdesk channel on OFTC in order to arrange a test Jitsi call. All being well, this should only take a few minutes, and it helps
    ensure
that BoFs and the Q&A portions of talks go as smoothly as possible. If
    you are
convening a BoF, please ask the people who will be in the BoF with you
    to also
    visit us.

    Best regards,
    Speaker Assistance Team

with my apologies for being so late (at least, we're still in 2020),
    here is the BoF report.

The Etherpad has been archived (see on the talk page above or on the
gobby document). Its content has been edited and copied over to the
gobby page: thanks gregoa for taking care of it!

Here is it as well. As usual, comments, follow-ups and general food for
thought is more than welcome. :)
