Can't seem to access this link. However agree about Diaghilev. Having an in-house costume designer, Leon Bakst, was bound to create a Ballet Russe visual idiom, to use jargon, which would complement his choreography and subjects.

    According to this:

    - The studio system contrary to general thinking was perhaps the most important film period/movement in film history not only because of its innovations but also because it took the early knowledge of Soviet montage, the German aesthetics, the French
lyricism, the Italian ‘Epicism’ and many other elements from many other sources and then combining them together into a code of norms that was introduced to film which logically affected the use of all its crafts. Being the main idea: produce a sense
    of unity.

    Concerning video games:

    - Before there was gaming – before there were screens – Wagner coined the term gesamtkunstwerk to describe the way his music, when combined with plot, acting, staging, lighting, and other atmospheric drivers, created a ‘total art form’. Through
gaming, the concept has taken on a new life. And much in the way that Wagner’s direct musical influence can be heard in the heroic soundtracks of games like Zelda and Final Fantasy, his gesamtkunstwerk has also seen an unlikely development into
interactivity. Surpassing the potential of this music to be a total artwork they can simply consume and enjoy, it enables players to become part of the music as they control the game. It’s an immersive artwork, and I doubt Wagner could have predicted
    such a powerful progression.
