• Peter Schreier (1935-2019)

From Herman van der Woude@21:1/5 to All on Tue Jan 7 17:42:37 2020
On Christmas Day 2019 Peter Schreier died at his home in Dresden,
Germany. He was a very distinguished singer, reknown for his
interpretations of Bach, Mozart, Schubert and Schumann. In this group
we will al remember him as David in Karajan“s recording of Die
Meistersinger. He was also a very talented Bach-conductor.I regard him
as one of the very great voices of the 20th century. He became 84. He
will be missed by all who love good, intellectual and sensitive
    singing.
Let us be glad that we still have his voice on many recordings.

He was a great David, and a great Max in Der Freischutz as well.

Yes, you are quite right! How could I forget, as I have this Ring in my collection - an underrated Ring, if you ask me.

I agree - and the two best parts are Rheingold and Siegfried, the two operas in which Schreier participated. I don't think that's a coincidence....
