• What is my ip address?

From SpreadTooThin@21:1/5 to All on Mon Feb 8 09:07:48 2016
I ssh into a server over a vpn.
From which IP address does this server think I logged in from?
This is what I need to know.
    It's an older Solaris server.

The "w" and/or "who" command should tell you that.

You didn't say whether the server is in the private network
reached by the VPN, or somewhere beyond that (such as on the
    open internet).

If you connect to a VPN and then through that VPN connect to
some external host unrelated to the private network, your
IP address is likely going to be some NAT-ted.

Basically the VPN joins you to a private network through a tunnel. You
are assigned an IP in that network, which appears on a VPN-based
virtual network interface on your local host.

If you make connections over that interface, the source IP of your
packets is that address, but of course it can be translated.
