I have an 8203-E4A that I am trying to load for personal use.
The system boots and eventually the operator panel says "STANDBY" so I
am guessing it's LPARed and waiting for an HMC.
I've tried admin/admin, but docs say first login will cause a password change, so that is unlikely to work on anything but a factory fresh machine.
I contacted IBM and entitlement said the base rate would be $6000 for
support -- a new POWER8 straight from IBM is cheaper so this is pretty
silly :)
How can I get the celogin password or contact someone that will be able
to assist?
Regards,
Kevin

Or ask our friendly insider, as that was necessary once for my Multiprise 3000 H50, although the CE password had a limited validity and wasn't controllable.

On S822 and S822L there is a much easier way to reset the admin password.
No need to contact IBM, the floppy front panel thing on the front is all you need.
Pop it out, then
- Use function 02 to set the service coprocessor into manual mode, enabling functions 25 and 26
- Use function 25, click OK to reveal "25 00"
- Use function 26, click OK to reveal "26 00"
- You have now enabled the customer-extended functions (if you see "26 FF", just try again)
- Use function 73 (reset system), click OK to reveal "A170800B", click OK to "reveal 73"
- Click OK one last time
- Wait 5 minutes for reset to complete
- Once you see "01 PVM" etc, it was resetted
- Use function 02 to set the service coprocessor into manual mode
- Use function 3000 and 3001 to reveal ASMI IP address
- Now log in as admin/admin
- The menu will initially only show change password. the actual functionality is enabled after password has been changed.
Function 73 was added in 2014, I think.
I had never used these systems before and it took me a few hours of googling IBM docs to find this out.
It just feels so bizarre. This could be a capture-the-flag challenge of how to hack into a mainframe, honestly.
Sorry for the necropost, but I hope this helps someone.
