• OEM SAS Disks?

What do I need to get OEM (i.e. not IBM labeled) SAS disks to work,
    say under AIX 7.1?
They can be configured (as "other SAS disk"),
but not formatted (under hardware diagnostics)
and can't be added to volume groups.
Which leaves them as a somewhat expensive paperweight.

    Hello,

    I installed AIX 6.1 with success on a Seagate Cheetah 15K 146GB ST3146855S

OK, I notice that for some disks this works.
However, I'd feel better if I could run a
    /usr/lpp/diagnostics/bin/uformat
    against the selected disk.
    This is being refused:
"A number of attributes are found to be missing from the Data Base"
    although the disk is configured.
Would it need some kind of microcode download?
