So - how does this system control it's boot source? is it AS400 style via the front panel, some pre-defined boot order or hitting a key at startup?
Any wisdom gratefully received!

I also own such a monster.
I had no difficulties to install 7.1.
Iirc F5 reverts to the default boot list.
Maybe it's corrupted (dead battery or such).
I'd press F1 (or "1") on startup and set up a new boot list to include the DVD-ROM as first boot device.

Thanks for the reply.
The keyboard doesn't even seem to be in a working state (no caps lock light toggle) until pretty much the AIX splash screen comes up - ie well into the boot process from disk.
The weird thing is that it *sometimes* decides to boot from optical. I have no idea what causes it to do that.
