• Xf86-video-tseng issues (1/2)

    From Louis Epstein@21:1/5 to All on Fri May 1 15:48:49 2020
    So this driver started always failing in synth (build log is below).

    I tried deleting it (leaving all the other drivers up) so that the
    things that would only build after it could go ahead,but instead the
    synth system would skip them (x11/xorg-drivers and x11/xorg) after
    ignoring it.

    Now,months later,
    synth prepare-system aborts because xf86-video-tseng isn't there,
    complaints not previously seen.
    Screen output:

    x11-drivers/xorg-drivers scan aborted because dependency could not be located. /usr/local/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/tseng_drv.so:x11-drivers/fx86-vide-tseng (required dependency of x11-drivers/xorg-drivers) does not exist.
    Scan of x11/xorg failed, it will not be considered.
    Encountered issue with x11-drivers/xorg-drivers or its dependencies
    => /usr/local/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/tseng_drv.so:x11-drivers/fx86-vide-tseng (required dependency of x11-drivers/xorg-drivers) does not exist.
    Scan of x11-drivers/xorg-drivers failed, it will not be considered.
    Scanning existing packages.
    Queue integrity lost! (Synth must exit)
    Unfortunately, the system upgrade failed.

    (This is all in response to "synth prepare-system" which worked fine last night).

    If I try to
    pkg install xf86-video-tseng
    I get (after a check that FreeBSD and Synth repositories are up to date)

    pkg: No packages available to install matching 'xf86-video-tseng have been found in the repositories

    If I try a"make install" in its ports directory I get a

    make: don't know how to make install. Stop

    (even though it made & installed before and there's a /work subdirectory to prove it).

    Build log from synth(lightly edited so newsreader will post it):

    Message from freetype2-2.10.1:

    -
    The 2.7.x series now uses the new subpixel hinting mode (V40 port's option) as the default, emulating a modern version of ClearType. This change inevitably leads to different rendering results, and you might change port's options to adapt it to your taste (or use the new "FREETYPE_PROPERTIES" environment variable).

    The environment variable "FREETYPE_PROPERTIES" can be used to control the driver properties. Example:

    FREETYPE_PROPERTIES=truetype:interpreter-version=35 \
    cff:no-stem-darkening=1 \
    autofitter:warping=1

    This allows to select, say, the subpixel hinting mode at runtime for a given application.

    If LONG_PCF_NAMES port's option was enabled, the PCF family names may include the foundry and information whether they contain wide characters. For example, "Sony Fixed" or "Misc Fixed Wide", instead of "Fixed". This can be disabled at run time with using pcf:no-long-family-names property, if needed. Example:

    FREETYPE_PROPERTIES=pcf:no-long-family-names=1

    How to recreate fontconfig cache with using such environment variable,
    if needed:
    # env FREETYPE_PROPERTIES=pcf:no-long-family-names=1 fc-cache -fsv

    The controllable properties are listed in the section "Controlling FreeType Modules" in the reference's table of contents (/usr/local/share/doc/freetype2/reference/site/index.html, if documentation was installed).

    Message from perl5-5.30.1:

    -
    The /usr/bin/perl symlink has been removed starting with Perl 5.20.
    For shebangs, you should either use:

    #!/usr/local/bin/perl

    or

    #!/usr/bin/env perl

    The first one will only work if you have a /usr/local/bin/perl,
    the second will work as long as perl is in PATH.

    Message from xorg-server-1.20.7,1:

    -
    Xorg-server has been installed.

    If your kernel is compiled with the EVDEV_SUPPORT option enabled
    (default starting from FreeBSD 12.1) it is recommended to enable evdev mode in pointer device drivers like ums(4) and psm(4). This will give improvements like better tilt wheel support for mice and centralized gesture support via xf86-input-synaptics or libinput drivers for touchpads.

    This is also needed for PS/2 devices to be properly detected by Xorg when moused service is disabled in /etc/rc.conf and kernel is compiled with EVDEV_SUPPORT.

    To enable evdev in such a device, run the following:

    # sysctl kern.evdev.rcpt_mask=6

    To make it persistent across reboots, add the following to /etc/sysctl.conf:

    kern.evdev.rcpt_mask=6

    Well,today I did a new svn update and MOVED now lists it as expired:broken.

    However,the same error messages were generated.

    /usr/local/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/tseng_drv.so being absent
    upsets something.that prevents x11/xorg and x11-drivers/xorg-drivers
    from building on my system and for lack of it synth won't build anything
    (where until today it was just skipping/ignoring at the beginning).

    Build it without the Tseng driver, then. Tseng Labs ceased to exist in 1997!

    A computer I got in 1991 had a Tseng video card.
    The one I've used since 2014 is from ASUS,with a Radeon HD 7770.

    cd /usr/ports/x11-drivers/xorg-drivers && make config

    would make -C x11-drivers/xorg-drivers config
    the next time I'm in /usr/ports do the trick?

    Will probably try.

    Well, complaining in c.u.b.f.m about xorg-drivers/Makefile still containing tseng when the dirver was remove isn't going to cause to suddenly work.

    Usually in such situations I'd get a "cached options obsolete"
    message and need to reconfigure to the default screen now lacking
    the removed options.
