• FreeBSD 13.1 creates snapshots automatically during update?

From Jesse Rehmer@21:1/5 to All on Wed Aug 17 04:16:57 2022
I updated by FreeBSD 13.1 boxes today using freebsd-update. Shortly after rebooting several boxes I ran out of disk space on a few.

It took me a while to figure out that a ZFS snapshot was created without my knowlege. I don't recall this ever happening before, is this something new? I found the same snapshot on all machines I updated today.

Is there any way to prevent this from happening in the future? I've never changed or configured anything relating to snapshots as I use VMWare snapshots instead.

    root@spool1:/ # zfs list -t snapshot
    NAME USED AVAIL REFER MOUNTPOINT zroot/ROOT/default@2022-08-16-02:01:01-0 8.62G - 433G -

    Cheers,

    Jesse

In case others have this issue, apparently this is new behavior and isn't well documented:
