• problems with tigervnc-server (and tightvnc)

From Mike Scott@21:1/5 to All on Tue Sep 28 11:36:42 2021
Not my week... this is on a pi4, fbsd 13.0 p4

I've installed the tigervnc-server package. But running vncsession
always fails with the message 'Failure daemonizing'.

Looking at auth.log, I see messages like

    in openpam_parse_chain(): /usr/local/etc/pam.d/tigervnc(3) missing or
    invalid facility

Checking that file shows a list of pam_XXXX.so files, none of which
    (except pam_unix) seems to exist.

Would I be correct in suspecting that the listed .so files are
linux-specific, and the package won't actually run on freebsd? Has
    anyone used it?

(Out of curiosity, I've tried removing or using an empty 'tigervnc' file
or copying the "other" file to tigervnc, but auth.log simply notes
    '...exited with status 2'. Unsurprising.)

An alternative, tightvnc, seems to have a memory allocation problem on
the pi (fine on i386 though):
Xalloc error.... Tail corrupt in Xfree().....

Is there a vnc server that /does/ work on the pi?

    Thanks.

Don't run vncsession directly for normal use. Start a server with
vncserver and connect with (I think; haven't got it installed at the
    moment) vncclient.
