that home directories in 11.3 are created as ZFS datasets. Furthermore, "useradd -d localhost:/export/home/user -m" will create an entry to
automount /home/user, or so I thought. This does not happen. When I
login as user, I am told that /home/user does not exist.
I am very new to ZFS. Guidance would be much appreciated.

check /etc/auto_home
Is there an entry there , something like
user localhost:/export/home/user
Does /export/home/user exist?
