• Version problem

From db@21:1/5 to All on Sun Jul 21 08:11:37 2019
I am trying to make up a presentation using Beamer, and
drag in photos. It doesn't seem to like JPG's so I found
a site that will convert JPG's to pdf's. Now LaTeX tells
me that these are version 1.7 and it can only handle up to
1.5. Is there a way to degrade them to that? Or might a
newer version of LaTeX help? Not sure how to get that. I
normally do a regular update of everything and assume that
    that includes LaTeX.

I don't have any problem using jpegs with beamer.
What do you mean by "doesn't seem to like" ?

I think it was because the names had a lot of dots in them.
I renamed them all and the problem seems to be fixed.

I do still wonder about the version numbers of those pdf files
though. I updated my textlive but it would still not accept v.1.7.
Academic now, for the time being.

This is apparently a known (and reported) difficulty (bug?) in the way
Beamer scans filenames to find the extension. Images must have only one
dot in the filename, separating the name from the extension.

Use the JPG files (change their names). I don't think there is any
advantage in using PDFs which simply contain an embedded image.
