• Getting better with my VT320 ... next Stop ... vim ESC and Cursor Keys

From Michael Bierenfeld@21:1/5 to All on Tue Jan 18 11:10:38 2022
    Hello again,

Using "VT300 Mode, 7 Bit Controls" Gets the "cursor" keys and "most" Special Keys working. For instance "htop" and Function Keys stuff like that. But ....

Using VIM is a different thing. Here the Cursor Keys are producing garbled output, switching between modes and in generall things that you do not like to have :-).

I am pretty used to using "hjkl" but from time to time I touch the cursor keys by accident. Does anybody solved this problem already.

Another thing ist "ESC". CRTL-3 is working fine. Using a single key would be even better.

    Regards

    Michael

Is your terminal type on the host set to VT300? VT300 mode is not like
native VT320 mode so if you set TERM=VT320 you can expect issues.

This solves it ! Terminal Settings is vt300 (you cannot choose 320). The is now the same as TERM=vt300.

This thing works like a charm now. Nice and green :-)

Amber is the best! *flame war*

Yep. Amber is definitiv the best. These things are not very common in germany any more. It took me approx. 3 Years to find this one

When I use a DECterm (as opposed to a DEC terminal), I often set the
background to black and the foreground to green!

    I have a VT102, some VT220s, a VT420, some VT510s and VT520s. However,
my favourites are the several VT 320s I have. I have them in green,
    amber, and white.

That's a nice collection! I tried to downsize, but they tend to come
back. I have one each of VT100, VT220, VT320, and VT420. The bulk of a
    VT52 scares me.
