• How does one signal a Clean Exit to a PuTTY telnet session?

How does one signal a clean exit to PuTTY? We are using a C++ application to open a PuTTY telnet session as a application console; localhost:9100 for example. When we close the telnet session, we sometimes get a network error box from the PuTTY session
and the PuTTY window does not close. The PuTTY session is configure to only close the window on a clean exit.
