    Good news.

One can access the Passwords from the keychain via Settings on iOS but
it is a somewhat tedious copy paste routine.

I've fallen out of love with 1Password since they went to their monthly
fee model. I've managed to muddle along with 1Password apps still
working on my old iMac and my iPhone - able to sync changes and such -
but the days are numbered for such. I refuse to "rent" software.

In the the meantime I've exported the password file (in plain text) to
my new iMac and encrypted that in case I need to dig out a password (and
wrote a program to facilitate that too - the flat file is ugly).

I've been using Passkeys for many months - alas not a lot of sites
support it so far - hopefully that picks up.

I hope they put up a non-website keyed version of this App for the Mac
as well for instances where account/passwords are not directly linked to
    a website.

Also be nice if it works with all browsers, not just Safari.

Apple to Launch Standalone 'Passwords' App in iOS 18 and macOS 15

Apple plans to introduce a new Passwords app in iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and
macOS 15. The Passwords app will serve as an alternative to third-party
    apps like 1Password and LastPass.

There's already a Passwords feature built into Apple's operating systems,
but it is hidden in the Settings app and it can be a little difficult to
find for those who are not familiar with it.

Apple has been gradually introducing new password features, such as storing logins and passwords, supporting one-time login codes, and offering
password generation options directly in Safari.

Like the existing Passwords section in Settings, the dedicated Passwords
app will be built on iCloud Keychain, Apple's feature that is able to sync login and password details across Apple devices. It will support all of the features that Passwords in Settings supports, and it will also work on the Vision Pro and Windows PCs.

The app includes logins and passwords for websites, Wi-Fi network
passwords, and Passkeys, a feature that uses Face ID or Touch ID to log
into websites instead of a password. Data from the app can be automatically inserted into websites and apps when a user logs in.

Apple's aim with the Passwords app is to encourage customers to use
stronger passwords and avoid repeating passwords for multiple websites and services.

Apple will be competing with longtime third-party password services like 1Password and the company does plan to allow customers to import their passwords from other services.

I'm happy with Bitwarden as well. But I'll take a look at Apple's new
Passwords app when it's released. Nothing to lose for looking.

The last time I totally rejected an Apple app was when the broke Podcasts
(1.0) away from iTunes. In my view it was mostly useless. Maybe it has
improved over the years, but I've never looked back.

The problem with Apple utilities is they tend to "stay in the family".

Currently, for example, I can automatically pull login-name + password
while using Safari from Apple's keychain, but not when using Chrome.
Similarly - if I get a 6 digit TFA from a site, it will autofill (if
desired) from Message to Safari, but not to Chrome.

When using 1Password (before they broke it for their rental <spit>
model), 1Password would fill login creds regardless of browser.

I use Safari more and more, however in some instances Chrome is better.
This includes a client's website where I have to upload/download data
regularly and Safari does not play well with it (drop file function).
