For my purposes Jolly Roger has helped me through *numerous* issues or
answered puzzing questions. Kudos for that, bro!

    TO ALL:

On Facebook, which groups might be generally equivalent to usenet-type groups for mac.systems and mac.apps? Those that have knowledge folks, a tolerant environment, and decent traffic?

There's a lot out there, and I'd like to know which of our non-damaged participants are active there.

facebook is unlikely to have what you seek.

a tech oriented web forum would be a better choice.

Maybe. Unfortunately, many popular ones are chock full of crap posts
from trolls. A lot of them lack good moderation.

I often ignore posts from Google. Use a real news client instead.

Good question... I've largely shied away from Facebook except on very infrequent occasion for many years, but I keep promising myself I'm
going to try to force myself to visit more frequently with assistance of
the Social Fixer browser plugin to filter out nonsense so I can as
purely as possible focus only on posts from family, close friends, and coworkers & acquaintances. And I suppose it'd also be nice to find a Apple/Mac/iPhone-related group there. Please do post back here if you
    encounter some.

There is no such thing on Facebook.

There used to be such things on Yahoo, and even on Google Groups. They no longer exist. Either they’re overrun by anti-Apple trolls or they have been removed for one reason or another.

This is as good as it gets.
