• Symphony jampack won't install

From Lyndon@21:1/5 to All on Sun Apr 18 08:15:31 2021
I am trying to install the Symphony Jampack on my 2008 iMac running
SnowLeopard and iLife 11. I get "installation fail" messages on two
different Jampacks (Symphony 1.0 & 1.0.1). How do I fix this?

Two other Jampacks have installed without problem.

    Thank You
    Lyndon

No idea, but if they use the appl Installer app is has a log. In one of
the menus Ther will be an option to show the log, Hints may be found
there as to what failed that way help.

However, depending on who old or new the software is it may be as simple
as "Snow Leopard is very old."

Two other Jampacks have installed without problem.

Published around the same time? Did the ones you are trying to install
come out before or after snow leopard? How much before or after? Does
the software list what versions of OS X it works with?

(I've never heard of Symphony Jampacks, so the versions numbers aren't
    helpful to me).

My GUESS, but it is only a guess, is that this software is too old to understand Snow Leopard.

Symphony Jampacks are an Apple creation to go with Garageband.
Garageband runs from Classic to High Sierra.

Versions of GarageBand still work in Big Sur, certainly. That probably
doesn't have much to do with addons for GarageBand.

Anyway, without a lot more information, there's no chance that someone
is going to magically figure out why it's not working unless someone
happens to have had the exact same problems.

I assume you are installing them through a music application. Which is that?

Now that I've rooted around my drive and found evidence of ye olde
jampacks, I believe their content was absorbed into stock default
libraries for both Garageband and Logic Pro X. I have the latter and
found all the old jampackorch loops in the loops library.

But the Symphony "instruments" are not there. I believe there are a lot
of Symphony loops that are not part of the basic Garageband app.

I believe they were published around "05. They are not too old for
SnowLeopard as they work fine on my MacPro running High Sierra.

Can you name those instruments so I can look for them? In any case,
there's a good chance they have been replaced, by better and more
    refined "instruments".

The hierarchy of libraries has changed in the intervening years, of
this I am assured. I don't spend much time combing through it but
perhaps that's where the issue lies.
