    As long as you have one of the cpu having a L2 cache, you just need to put inside another identical. Pay attention that the pa-8800 had an entry level cpu without level 2 cache (aka without the 32MB cache).. those are not allowing a 2nd cpu.

    customer added CPU due to microcode with ludicrous HP control over my
    hardware. Anyone done a field upgrade, or does this hold truth?

    I finally found and installed one. It works great, no license stuff to
    worry about as you said.
