• Microsoft is utterly idiotic

From Alan@21:1/5 to All on Wed Nov 10 11:45:42 2021
    Open a Word Document.

Select the first few words of a bulleted paragraph (but NOT the bullet
    or tab!).

In a second document, paste that text into a table cell using
"PasteTextOnly" (a built-in command in Word for which you can assign a
    custom shortcut).

Watch Word decide that you actually wanted both the bullet character
(now an empty character box because the Symbol font's "•" is not the
same glyph in Times New Roman) AND the tab.

AND that it should reformat the table column widths for no apparent reason.

Hell, just set up a paragraph with a right tab stop at the left margin,
then try to enter a tab character at the beginning of a new line...

...and watch Word decide you really wanted to change the indents of your paragraph!

    1. It is absurd that a "keep text only" command would keep bullets and

    2. That's Word-menu-preferences-edit-CutAndPasteOptions-Settings...

    3. ...and then the option isn't even there.

And can you explain why a "PasteTextOnly" should result in the paragraph
line spacing to change from single to double?

Nothing compared to the idiocy of Microsoft in Windows 11. Several
important things now require more mouse clicks to perform. Overall Win
    11 is a step back.

Ignorance is no excuse. You are not just ignorant, but also stupid. Ignorance can be fixed with education and/or experience. Stupid is not trying something right there in front of you that can work and then griping about what you tried not working rather
    than looking for a solution.

What you did carries the paragraph formatting with it. Always has. Try going to the bottom of the Paste drop down, select Paste Special, then Unformatted Text or Unformatted Unicode Text. Or, right-click and select Paste Special then unformatted paste.
Anyone with any Word experience at all knows how that works.

    Sheesh, try harder next time.

Turns out that paste special unformatted works if you select in the middle of a line but not if you select from the start of the line.

    Try this:

Select the entire formatted line to the last character but not the paragraph delimiter. Command C to copy and Command V to paste in the new document. Same result in both Mac and Windows versions.

    I tried harder. It worked.

...after you realized I was right all along...

    ...Idiot.

Try Control C then Control V to paste.

    1. It's COMMAND-C and COMMAND-V on a Mac.

And I have tried PRECISELY what you suggested.

In fact, I have selected lines from after the tab of the bullet-tab to
begin a line to somewhere in the middle, and then used "Paste
Special-Unformatted Text" to insert that text else where...

    ...and it FAILS, Idiot.

Do you want to see a movie of it, Idiot?

    It does work. My clip:

Lied again Alan. Don't know how, but you lied, again. It works as long as it's an excerpt.

No. It works because you didn't begin your excerpt at the beginning of
    the text, Idiot.

Admittedly it should also work for the entire line.

Which means your entire argument that I was getting it wrong was
actually what was wrong, doesn't it, Idiot?

In what way am I ignorant, idiot?

What you did carries the paragraph formatting with it. Always has. >>>> Sorry, but you're demonstrating YOUR idiocy. That is why there is a >>>> "Keep text only" option.

Or were you ignorant of the options:

    Keep Source Formatting
    Use Destination Theme
    Match Destination Formatting
    Keep Text Only

What would the point of those options, if the formatting was carried >>>> with it "Always", idiot?

    Sheesh, try harder next time.

    You first, idiot.

It worked.
