• You can't re-configure this machine

From Stuart@21:1/5 to All on Thu Oct 21 15:22:11 2021
I am trying to prepare an old RPC for sale. It was missing a HDD so I
found one from my collection, placed it another machine, via an ARCin
card, downloaded the clean boot from Risc OS Ltd and carried out the
    install on the replacement drive.

I then put the HDD in the machine I wish to sell and it keeps telling me
!Boot has not been run and that I cannot re-configure the machine.

Update, apologies shouldn't rely on memory. User Guide says

    *Configure Boot

    NO change I'm afraid :-(

    You could try the following

    *Configure Boot
    *Opt 4 2

    This should run the !Boot

Provided you have access to the star command you can use the built in Help.

What version of RISCOS do you have in the machine and did you get the corresponding one for the version?

Also when you did the reformat of the drive did you make it bootable?

    4.02 and yes

I haven't reformatted the drive, it was used in my Kinetic (4.39) on an
ARCin card, it was used as a backup for the main drive. When it was originally formatted, I would have made it bootable because I can't see
any reason not to. I have done a Verify and all is good.

Tomorrow I will start from scartch and do a format

Lightbulb moment! I just tried a DEL-Power on and all now seems to be
    working

    Thanks to everyone.

Try using the filing system name rather than the module number, as the
number may not be the same with different versions of RISC OS.

    e.g.

    *configure filesystem ADFS

    You could try the following

    For the record both

    *Opt 4 2

    and

    *Opt 4,2

    have the same effect!

This is true of all star commands i.e. you can use a space of a comma to separate parameters.
