I've just received an Email from Elektor regarding a book 27.95 Euros.
Anyone know anything about this, is it likely to be of use, other than
    purely academic purposes?

"RISC-V is an Instruction Set Architecture (ISA) that is both free and
open. The RISC-V ISA is suitable for applications ranging from embedded microcontrollers to supercomputers.
This new book will first describe the 32-bit RISC-V ISA, including both
the base instruction set as well as the majority of the currently-defined extensions. The book will then describe, in detail, an open-source implementation of the ISA that is intended for embedded
    control applications."

RISC-V is not ARM. It borrows a lot from the original reduced instruction
set MIPS designs of 1980s, but with an extensible instruction encoding.
Unlike ARM, x86, etc, the spec is free for anyone to implement in their own silicon. Which people are doing - and so it's gained a certain amount of
    hype (some justified, some not).

It's about as relevant to RISC OS as PowerPC is - ie not at all.

(until such time as RISC OS is able to run on non-ARM based processors -
since it can't even use 64-bit ARM processing, on current timelines that
    would be approximately never)

    Thank you.

Of acedemic interest only then and not to me.
