I have a booklet Re 50 pages in Impression format.
I need to get this into a format that can be read and edited on a
    window machine.
How do I go about this task.

It depends whether it is a 'desktop publishing' booklet or a
'word-processor' style booklet. If it is full of individually
positioned repeating frames, lots of images, etc., export in anything
like the original form is likely to be virtually impossible. If it is
a reasonably simple set of paragraphs and headings then you should be
able to get the text out (and possibly re-insert the illustrations by
saving them out separately). It's likely to be a one-time-only process, though.

Export as plain text (one frame at a time), import into Windows software
    and reformat.

Or, export as DDF (one frame at a time) and import into OvationPro,
reformat and load into the Windows edition of OvationPro.

Or, export as DDF (one frame at a time) and convert to HTML using
DDF2Html, import into a Windows program that accepts HTML and reformat.

Or, print as PDF using PrintPDF and import into a Windows program that
can edit PDF. This is your quickest and most repeatable option, but
PDF tends to be a read-only format.

you could make it into a pdf. There is Windows softwsre that lets you edit pdfs. But you would then lose any formatting,

If you happen to have OvationPro (and you really should!), you can import
the booklet, nearly without any after editing (as far as I remember, only particular frame borders loose their properties). From there you can edit
the booklet in OvationPro for Windows, if you happen to have that one too.

All this is true, if the booklet isn't too old. OvationPro can read nearly every Impression file, apart from the oldest ones.

Thanks Harriet for your detailed reply.
It does sound as though it is not easy. I was trying to save a lot of
typing but printing out and typing in again on windows might be best considering the posible pitfalls/limitations of the alternatives.
I have also found there are a lot of Ovation Pro documents as well!!!

    Thanks

OvationPro can read Impression files, can't it? Perhaps the Windows version can also?

I can endorse Paul's method from past use (Publisher > OvPro RO >
    OvPro W10).

One issue is the fonts to be used. I ensured that the fonts of the
original had identical ones available in Windows by restricting them
to a selection taken from the old EFF Fonts CD which had both RISC OS
and Windows versions. Formats were then retained.

OvPro Windows version is available to download and use for a limited
(but lengthy) time with access to online manual. I found an
initially steep learning curve in moving over to it from
Impression/Publisher but I've never regretted it. The ability to
switch DTP work in an instant between RISC OS and Windows is a bonus,
being so easy with an emulator version of RISC OS.

Charles' suggestion would save you a lot of re-typing out the Impression documents, as suggested, and OVPro for Windows is the answer for Ovation documents.

Both OvPro for RISC OS and OvPro for Windows will load Impression files.

I still have some Imp Publisher files from the past (The single file type,
NOT the really old appdir type) from which I need bits and bobs of data.

I just drop the Imp file into OvPro RISC OS or Windows, depending on which
side I'm working and it works.

If you just want the text you can copy and paste from Imp to RISC OS OvPro.

FWIW, OPro on RISC OS (I don't have the Windows version) will load the old
    App style Impression documents.

I've only got the one (!MicroScop) demo file but it loads quite happily in
to OPro 2.78e here, with the one caveat - some of the headline font sizes
don't translate oroperly, but it's just a few minutes work to resize the
text so it fits the frame.

    Indeed...

I've just dug out a couple of old Impression files in the appdir format, "!Dates".

This old style Imp file will load okay in RISC OS OvPro but not in Win
    OvPro.

But as I previously mentioned, the single file Imp files will load into
    both versions of OvPro okay.

Also Brian, as you and others have noted, both fonts and frames may not translate exactly, but if it means you have access to the text, which in
my case is more important than the formatting... Phew! Saves a lot of
    typing. :-)

I have on occasion needed the whole Imp file rather than just bits, and as
you note, a re-edit once in OvPro doesn't take very long.

    Dave

    After thought...

Just in case it has been forgotten, there is now a free download of
Impression Style on the PlingStore, which could prove invaluable for folks
with a collection of Impression files but no computer with Impression
installed to view or re-edit their documents.

Thanks everyone for their replies to my plea for assistance, all
wonderfull. All the booklets and info is on my very seldom used
Iyonix, which thankfully still performs well.
I have dropped my booklet into Ovation Pro and it has displayed
everything correctly as far as I can see with a quick glance.
Now to carry out the next step, though at the moment time does not
    permit.

    Thanks again

The filetype extension for Ovation Pro for Windows is dpd

So save the file on the RISCOS side as xxxxx/dpd and when it appears on
