From Chris Newman@21:1/5 to All on Sun Oct 31 21:04:48 2021
    Hi,

At the London Show yesterday Steve said I could download the new version
of Paint from the ROOL site but I'm blowed if I can find it. I'm probably missing the bleedin' obvious as usual.
    Any pointers?

    Chris
Download HardDisk4 under Miscellaneous on the downloads page and extract
what you want. It catches me too each time I have to do it, it forget how
    I did it last time.

I did that and paint isn't in it. I have searched diligently.
The Apps directory only contains CloseUp, Maestro, Omni, SciCalc & Squash.

Isn't Paint one of the ROM apps? If so, you could need to update your ROM to
a recent build of 5.29 -- although bear in mind that the odd number means
that these are nightly development builds and so not QA'd in any way.

I suppose it would help to know what was actually said about Paint's availability at the show.

Unfortunately it still is in ROM on the ROD side.

I'm running a RPCEmu 0.9.3 with ROD 5.29 and the version I have is Paint
    2.42 (07 July 21).

Another older RPCEmu 0.9.3 install running ROD 5.28 has Paint version 2.37
    (10 Aug 20).

As an exhibitor at the show I need to wait for the videos from the talks to be available to find out what they were about and any juicy tidbits, but I'd hazard a guess that Paint was talking about its translucency support and exporting as PNG (as well as
    JPEG and Sprite).

If so that was covered in
    https://www.riscosopen.org/news/articles/2021/08/13/ping-another-one-fully-cooked

and to answer the question Chris has raised see "How to get hold of the updated apps" specifically. Hint: no messing with ROMs needed, both Paint and ChangeFSI have disc based incarnations,

    Thanks Paul,

I am now the proud owner of Paint 2.45 (16-Oct-21).

This now allows saving as a JPEG without my having to use DPlingScan.
It is supposed to also export as PNG but this is greyed out. From the
article in Archive 4.25, it looks a s though I have to update Change
FSI as well. Now where is that....? Off I go to explore.

I've updated Change FSI but PNG saving still greyed out. As the Apps
folder is read only, I can't update the copy in there. I have to load it manually from elswhere.

I think you need the module CompressPNG. Get it from here... https://www.riscosopen.org/zipfiles/platform/common/HardDisc4.zip

Then find the module in !Boot.Resources.!System.350.Modules

Copy to same on your !System.

ChangeFSI is actually in $.Utilities. The 'copy' in Apps is simply a
    link to the real location.
