• A real Titanium Buster

From Elesar Sales@21:1/5 to All on Thu Jun 18 11:07:01 2020
Even though we may be sheltering indoors, that's no reason not to bust out
with an update to the Titanium Linux port.

    Right up to date
    ----------------
Titanium Linux now ships with Debian "Buster"; they're named after Toy Story characters, previously we used "Jessie".
This runs upon Linux kernel 4.14, a current long term stable release.

    New additions
    -------------
Previously, by default, we offered a minimalist Linux install which started
at a text command prompt. With this update there's also now a graphical
desktop installed (XFCE) and Firefox web browser - capable of rendering even the most complex websites.

Of course you can disable that and stick with a command prompt if you prefer!

    What you'll need
    ----------------
There's an updated !GoLinux application, version 1.07, to handle a change to the image format that U-boot uses now. This can be downloaded from the 'Resources' tab on the Titanium
    http://shop.elesar.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=51

Full instructions on how to build the kernel and U-boot are given on Elesar's github page
    https://github.com/elesar-uk/titanium-build

and pointers how to copy that onto a micro SD card to boot from (this process needs a host Linux PC to compile it).

If you'd rather skip the build step, Elesar offer a completed micro SD card
    as a spare part
    http://shop.elesar.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=62

Since RISC OS boots from a separate flash chip, Titanium's micro SD card
socket is free for use, and can be left inserted for when you want to switch
to Linux. On shutdown, the next time you power up you'll be back in RISC OS.

    Already on Jessie?
    ------------------
We can re-image your micro SD card if you have active support tokens. Just
open a ticket and we'll tell you where to post it. Please note that the re-imaging process wipes any user data.
