Having become increasingly frustrated with how frequently WinEd crashes on modern RISC OS systems, or how quickly it can fill up the ZeroPain log, I've finally got around to investigating what would be involved in building a new version from the sources -- which can be found on riscos.info
https://www.riscos.info/websvn/listing.php?repname=wined
It's been an interesting journey, involving the re-creation of some missing files, but I'm pleased to report that the code in SVN will finally, after around a decade, build to a working application. I'd like to thank Adam Richardson for his prompt responses to my questions, even if he was only
able to confirm that there might be some gaps in the DeskLib library that
WinEd uses. Thank you, too, to the denizens of csa.programmer and the GCCSDK mailing list, whose help in squashing some compiler errors generated by
WinEd's code was invaluable.
So far, I've released a version 3.23 based on 3.21a with a ZeroPain fix. Version 3.22a was skipped because there's some suggestion that a version
with this number might have made it out into the wild -- although the source code appears to have been lost (if anyone knows different, let me know).
However, events have already overtaken this, and several more ZeroPain
issues have been sorted. Instead of using up all of the version numbers,
I've switched to the "SVN snapshot" approach that I use on my own software.
At the time of writing, r67 is the latest build available to download, but
that could change.
For now the new builds (both 3.23 and r67, or whatever revision we're at
when you visit) can be found at

Whilst I'm thinking about this, it would be really helpful if other
WinEd-using developers could give these releases a workout and report any crashes or ZeroPain logs that they get. Once things have stabilised a bit,
I'll do another "numbered" release and look at getting it into PackMan and
the like.
For those not familiar with it, WinEd is a window template editor which can
be used to design windows for use in RISC OS Wimp programs. Its original founding aim, according to The Wiki, was to do everything which TemplEd
could do, only better!
