• Next developers' fireside chat - 12th August

    From Vince M Hudd@21:1/5 to All on Thu Aug 10 23:45:02 2023
If you have any interest in software development on (or of) RISC OS, then
you might want to join in the next 'fireside chat', which will take place
    on Saturday, 12th August.

The meeting will take place from 7:30pm and will be wholly online, using
the Zoom video conferencing system, making it easy for anyone to join from pretty much anywhere as long as they have a suitable computer and an
internet connection. The Zoom software can be downloaded from https://
    zoom.us/

There is also no specific requirement or qualification for joining the
meeting, other than having an interest in programming on RISC OS. It
doesn't matter what level you are at; you can be taking your first steps
or a programming wizard, or anywhere in the middle of those two, and no
matter whether you're a seasoned RISC OS user, or someone new to the
platform wondering what you can do with it if you have a compiler or interpreter, you are welcome to join these meetings.

The idea behind the gatherings is to - hopefully - make RISC OS
programming a more accessible subject; for people with more experience to
share their tried and tested methods for performing certain tasks, and for those with less experience to benefit from that sharing. The allow
guidance and advice to be given and received (depending on your abilities
and those of the people you are talking to), and for all of this to be
done in a friendly, informal way.

The meetings can progress in any number of ways, from discussions of
specific issues faced by beginners, through 'how do I?' style requests, to looking at recently made demonstration videos of how to do a specific task
in a in different languages, how to use certain tools, and so on, followed
by a discussion exploring those topics. Even if a specific question can't
be quickly or easily answered on the night, they could open up a more
specific avenue for a future meeting to focus on, or for videos to be
    produced.

If you've attended any of the previous meetings, the details should be the same, but if you haven't you can obtain them by sending a direct message
to Andrew McCarthy on Twitter or Mastodon:

    https://mastodon.online/@armbytes

You can also contact Andrew to obtain the meeting details from your RISC
OS computer using ChatCube - but if none of those are an option, you can
also send an email to me at news@riscository.com

Please be aware, though, that any emails sent this way on Saturday may not
get a reply until close to the meeting's start time.
