• PhotoDesk 3.17.XAT now available on !Store

From Andrew Rawnsley@21:1/5 to All on Thu Sep 8 20:11:44 2022
PhotoDesk has had a bit of a chequered past in recent years, and
availability has been "interesting" since XAT in the Netherlands
negotiated with CJE Micros to purchase the rights 18 months ago.

We are pleased to report that PhotoDesk is now available properly again,
under its new XAT parents, and can be purchased via !Store.

The price has been halved down to 42ukp.

Additionally, you can upgrade from any version (at all) for 29ukp, no
questions asked. We know that a number of people had copies from odd
sources, so rather than causing any embarrassment, we're doing a blanket
"if you used it, you can upgrade" policy. Just put "UPGRADE 29" in the
special instructions when ordering and we'll charge your card the lower
    fee.

The new XAT edition has had some minor, but useful, work done over the
summer, and that's why this is a R-Comp posting - I stepped in to tidy it
up and help get it shipped, because I didn't want to see it languishing
    unloved and unreleased.

Most notably, it now installs different defaults for RiscPC era hardware
as compared with modern RISC OS 5 systems. This allows it to be better tailored to each generation, rather than being ham-strung by "one size
fits all". This gives significantly improved performance on modern
hardware using modern photos which tend to be significantly larger.

We've also tidied up some of the loaders, filetypes and "intercepts" that Photodesk does to make it play nicer on modern systems.

PhotoDesk has been tested successfully on a wide range of computers from (virtual) RiscPC through to Pi4/400. RISC OS 3.1 is no longer supported
(it hasn't been for a while), and we don't have any 3.x setups to test on either.

A full set of changes is listed in its !Store product page / changelog.

Any future updates via !Store will be free of charge unless something
    unforseen happens.

    Best wishes,

    Andrew
