2021 has been a tough year for many of us, both in terms of health and business, and that's certainly true here at R-Comp. We have agonised long
and hard about how best to handle the London RISC OS Show in light of our continued sheltering, and concerns for our fellow RISC OS users.
Conversely, we surely need the potential business that shows bring after
nearly two years of their absence.
With Steph and I both still shielding and in the "at risk" category
COVID-wise, we are concerned for both our own health, and also that if we
do pick anything up, we could easily pass it on to customers as we tend to interact quite closely with people on the stand.
R-Comp at the Show (yes, but no, but yes...) =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
With this in mind, I've taken the (extremely) hard decision for Steph and
I to not attend in person this year. We hope that our fellow RISC OS
users will understand that health (both ours and yours) is having to take priority over everything this year.
However, we do not wish the show organisers, or visitors, to suffer by our non-attendance. As such, we will still be having a presence at the show
and paying for a stand as usual. Richard of Orpheus has kindly agreed to
act as our agent for the show, and we will be sending in a large "care
package" of software and hardware for sale at the event.
Additionally, the other members of the R-Comp show team - Alan Wrigley and Andrew Pullan - have both expressed a desire to attend the show in person. Whilst they may not be on-hand all the time (it'll be nice for them to
explore the show too!) we hope that one or other should be available to
answer any questions you may have. Failing that, I'll be available via
phone or video link from my "bubble" to answer and help.
Please at least drop by and say "hello" to them all - it's absolutely
brilliant that they're able to help out like this.
As to things you'll be able to see - expect 4te, PiTools, latest Fireworkz
Pro and other goodies (including the odd new announcement - stay tuned!).
R-Comp before the Show
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Because I won't be there in person, I'd like to do a pre-show live stream
of some description prior to the event to show visitors our products and
talk about the things we've been working on. This may help you decide
what you might be interested in ahead of the show, and give a more
extended time to see what R-Comp and RCI have been up to. There'll be the opportunity to ask questions and interact, and some promotions / discounts
too.
All being well this will be on Thursday 28th before the show, to allow
people to travel on the Friday. However, this is still in the planning
stage.
R-Comp theatre talk?
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
This one is still up in the air. I'm hoping to make a theatre
presentation virtually, but this may not be possible depending on internet links and the like.
R-Comp after the Show...
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Since we know not everyone can attend (like us!) we'll be offering show
prices and discounts after the event too. You can ask when ordering, but probably best to tune in to our live stream :)
We certainly appreciate everyone's support in all of this. It's a tough
time, and these are tough decisions. Hopefully things will be less
uncertain come the Spring, and we'll be able to see you all again at
Wakefield next year.
Best wishes to everyone, and please, stay safe :)
Andrew, Steph, and the R-Comp Team.
