Here is Discobolus for anyone to play with.

Discobolus is a tiny module to show disc read and write activity at the pointer.

Many modern disc options, such as SD cards or SSDs, do not have disc
activity LEDs. Discobolus is a small compensation for that, but is by no
means a replacement.

A selection of disc operations causes Discobolus to display the
hourglass pointer for a short period. This period is not related to the
time taken for the operation to complete.

The hourglass defaults to red for reading and orange for writing
operations with a period of 20 centi-seconds, but these can be changed
with *Discobolus.
