The next online meeting of the RISC OS User Group Of London will be:
The DARIC Programming Language
Presented by Daryl Dudey
Monday 15th March 2021, 7:45pm
Online via Zoom, meeting open from 7.30pm
http://www.rougol.jellybaby.net/meetings/
At the 2019 London Show, Daryl demonstrated his 3D graphics library that
could be used from BASIC or C. To make it even easier to use, he has been developing his own BASIC-like programming language called DARIC with built
in support for 3D object creation and manipulation (plus sprite and sound support when it's finished!).
Daryl will be talking about how and why he created DARIC, and some of the challenges he has met along the way. Topics covered will include:
- Why DARIC was created.
- The DARIC architecture.
- Why not use BBC BASIC or BBfW?
- See keywords being liberally sprinkled through the language!
- The challenges of recreating the "classic" interactive BASIC experience.
- Building something cross-platform, how to handle differences in
hardware, such as acceleration and differing OS routines.
- The difficulties of compiling standards compliant C++ code on RISC OS,
and why I believe C isn't enough for modern software.
- Where is DARIC going?
There will be a demo of the progress so far, no doubt including some very
fancy 3D graphics!
This meeting will be held online via Zoom. Please contact us to receive
a link to the meeting on the day:
