R-Comp Interactive is pleased to announce that the exciting new 4t
computer system, first shown at the Virtual London Show is now shipping to customers. We expect that fulfilling back orders will take 2-3 weeks, but
that still leaves time for you to receive your computer before Christmas,
if you order soon.
The actual release of the machines was postponed until about 3 weeks after
the Show because a part-shipment from the Far East suffered COVID-related delays. However, this time was not wasted - far from it. Instead, we
have taken the time to develop a new suite of software - !4tTools,
!4tSetup, !4tLock and !4tBrowse (amongst others).
Eagle-eyed readers may recognise these names as being similar to the work
we did for the ARMbook to elevate that product with all sorts of useful
extras, and that's what we've done here. We've added lots of new features
on top of the old ones, specifically to take advantage of the special capabilities of the 4t computer.
This software allows users to easily configure aspects of the machine by clicking buttons, whilst also incorporating other applications to enhance
the experience. You can, for example, trade off heat for performance, or activate Big Mode on your 4K screen, or activate other accessibility
features to make your computer easier to see and use.
There are specific enhancements for users who want to play retro games or
use emulation software, whilst other users can maximise performance or
enable security features. A range of networking tools are provided to
simplify networking, and allow password-protected remote access.
Other new additions include 4tBrowse, a HTML5+JavaScript web browser
which is sped up by 4t-specific features.
This is on top of the 250+ pounds of commercial software included with 4t covering things like office applications, sound, security, email,
printing, backup, DTP, games, graphics and more. Indeed, if we were more headline-grabbing, we might say that the computer comes free with the
software! Note that the application/utility programs supplied are full commercial versions, not demos or reduced functionality.
You can read more about the 4t computer and its unique features at
http://www.armini.co.uk/4te.shtml
Please note that we will be updating the site more as time permits - we
have been rather swamped since the show. It is great to be so busy with
RISC OS projects, but sometimes there aren't enough hours in the day!
Commenting on the project, Andrew Rawnsley added, "The 4t hardware and software has been one of our largest custom projects, from design through
to hardware and software. The computer has our most extensive and
elaborate software suite ever, and packs amazing performance, yet runs
silently and is our lowest priced computer ever!"
Of course, existing R-Comp machine owners will not be left out in the
cold, with a range of free software and OS upgrades shipping before
Christmas, stemming from work done during the 4t development.
Best wishes,
--
