• WinEd 3.26 Released

From Steve Fryatt@21:1/5 to All on Sat Aug 29 21:35:09 2020
Hot on the heels of last month's update to WinEd, I'm pleased to announce
    the availability of version 3.26.

This version continues to build on the improvements from recent releases,
and features a complete re-implementation of the icon name export facility. This aims to resolve a number of long-standing niggles:

    * Adds C enum and C #define formats to the existing C typedef, BASIC and
    MessageTrans export options.
    * Allows window and icon names to be converted into upper or lower case.
    * Enables a standard prefix to be added to all icon name definitions.
    * Provides GUI options for excluding window names from definitions,
excluding implied assignments from enums, and using real variables in
    BASIC.
    * Replaces characters which are invalid in the target format.
    * Fixes the inclusion of syntactically-incorrect commas in enums.

In addition, the following bugs have been addressed:

    * Fix a problem when loading templates whose names contain a % character,
    introduced in 3.20.
    * Fix problem which left a window icon in the file browser when deleting an
    open window, introduced in 3.10.
    * Fix problems with the handling of unsaved files during an aborted Desktop
Shut-Down, which prevented WinEd from subsequently being quit.
    * Disable all keypresses aside from Escape during drag operations, to avoid
    unexpected side effects.
    * Check that there is a selected window in the template browser before
    attempting to operate on it.
    * Improve interactive help messages throughout the application.
    * Correct the behaviour of radio icons under Adjust clicks.

Thanks are due to all of those who have suggested improvements, tested development builds and helped to identify the unwanted features.

For those who haven't encountered it before, WinEd is a template editor
whose founding aim was "to do everything which TemplEd could do, only
better!" It was originally written by Tony Houghton, who developed it until 2003; his work was continued by Adam Richardson, who maintained and improved WinEd until 2009.

WinEd's most attractive features include the fact that its main editing interfaces use dialogue boxes. Icons can be dragged between windows,
including a customisable 'Picker' window containing the most commonly used icons, and multiple template files can be loaded by one instantiation of
WinEd. Optional tool panes and keyboard short cuts enhance convenience.

It contains powerful features for positioning icons relative to each other,
and rounding of coordinates in high resolution modes to ensure low
resolution compatibility. Conventions are based on ROOL's Style Guide. Statistics are available on the size and content of template files, to
assist with loading them into simple applications.

WinEd is licenced under the GPLv2, and copies of 3.26 can be found in the PlingStore, in ROOL's ThirdParty PackMan repository, and at
