• Original DECmate value

From tsraguso@gmail.com@21:1/5 to All on Tue Feb 19 10:13:21 2019
I have the opportunity to purchase an original DECmate with the RX02 unit cart. How much is this item worth? There are no listed sales on Ebay for this item.

They should pay you to take it.
Every single electrolytic in it is going to be bad too.
Hope to God the monitor flyback is good.

My guess? Nothing. Most DEC enthusiasts are into VAX and Alpha. Other
DEC products? Not so much. Considering that one can get even quite
good VAX and ALPHA computers for free, I doubt that the DECmate is worth anything on any market, except perhaps in pristing condition for some
    museum or DEC enthusiast.

I have one of these. I need the cable to connect the terminal to the drive pedestal. The VT278 runs OS/8, making it a nice little PDP 8 machine. I'd say that's what makes them worth having. You can use as a tweener to copy software to other OS/8
    machines possibly.

I assume it's a European Ebay seller, I did not see it in my USA search. I just need the cable and software though, not a whole system. I have restored my VT278 terminal including the CPU card, I have a spare too. Works fine as a VT100 terminal at
    least.

I belive that the cable is a DEC part BCC02. Information on making one up can be found at: http://www.larosse.net/pc100/VR241.html
