    After 27 years? Probably not.

This is Usenet. Usenet has been around since 1983. "Google Groups" is a cheesy interface to Usenet which attempts to make it look like a proprietary Google facility when in fact Google has done more to damage Usenet than anything else. This group has been around since the Great Renaming of 1987
and there are a lot of old postings in the database. Do not expect people
who posted decades ago to still be on Usenet.

On a more factual basis, there was an archiving of Usenet called Dejanews, which Google bought. I believe a lot of the older content is based upon
    those old data sets.

I was using it in 1983, so I think you are wrong. Google took it over
    (and ruined it) much later.

Some of us took sysadmin jobs to make sure we could run the Usenet
    connections to our companies 8-).

Only thing better than Usenet in my opinion is Vax Notes.

Sounds like a lot of us here. More in alt.folklore.computers where I'm
    the "kid" of the group.

I'll be gone from Usenet when they remove this keyboard from my cold dead hands.

Usenet at home since I could get it running on a 68k, 8086 running Xenix
and later on FreeBSD and Linux.

Ah the fun of building Bnews and rn... and later Cnews and trn.
