keyboard woes

Further experimenting with graphics monitors, I've connected up a
keyboard, machine (PWS), and monitor which are known to work. Actually,
I even tried two keyboards. At the login prompt, "aaaaaa" appears, as
if someone is holding down the key. The "t" key acts as caps lock, and
the backspace key writes "<".
Anyone ever seen this anywhere?
