• Two Terrible Things That Are More Terrible Together

From Spalls Hurgenson@21:1/5 to All on Sat Nov 11 15:56:20 2023
Well, it's been a while since we dusted off this old topic but here we
    are again:

Ubisoft is once more pushing NFTs in its games.*

Honestly, there's really not too much to say on this topic that we
haven't said before. It's a terrible idea and it's going to flop as
badly as all the previous times Ubisoft (and pretty much anyone) has
tried to wedge NFTs into games.

I'm mostly mentioning it because it's become such a joke that you
can't help but laugh sadly at the stupidity of it. It's increasingly
obvious that there is at least one die-hard cryptobro working at a
high level at Ubisoft who is trying anything to prop up the price of
    his Ethereum/Bitcoin/whatever.

The tears from their desperation make me smile. ;-P

It was kinda inevitable really that regardless of the almost total
failure of NFT's in games that you'd still have someone in a position of authority who would be convinced that it was because gamers just didn't understand why this is good for them so we just need to push harder this
time until they do understand. No gamers understood perfectly and that's
why there was so much pushback.

Of course it doesn't help the amount of cryptobros who treat it as what
can best be described as a religion.

Who's a good doggie with a bone he refuses to stop gnawing on? Aww,
Spallsy is! Good boy! (*pat pat pat*) (*wag wag wag*)

    Lol

I don't mind these Ubi reports at all. It's so fun to see the solid gold
stick (which turns out to be iron pyrite) up their C-suite's nethers.
It's the hill they've decided to die on. Sam Bankman-Fried is literally
going to jail*, "Bored Ape Yacht Club" buyers have literally gone blind** (temporarily, but figuratively it's far worse), and they *still* think
    they can run this hustle.
