Over the years, all the classic "Infinity Engine" CRPGs got some love
in the form of the various Enhanced Editions. "Baldur's Gate" and
"Baldur's Gate 2" were first; beloved "Planescape" got some work done
next, and finally so did "Icewind Dale".
But oddly, "Icewind Dale 2" has remains forgotten and un-enhanced.
Or rather, "Icewind Dale 2" never received an OFFICIAL enhancement.
The fans, of course, have been as busy as usual. An unofficial
"Icewind Dale 2 Enhanced Edition" is now available.
It is, obviously, not a stand-alone product; you will need to own a
copy of the base game first, and the Enhanced Edition is applied as a
patch to that version. But this mod adds a bunch of fixes,
quality-of-life improvements, improves hardware compatibility with
modern computers, and adds a bunch of new spells and items.
The only thing it doesn't improve is the visuals, although personally
I still find the graphics quite usable and the addition of wide-screen
mode helps a lot.
